Submissions
Archetype strives to publish the best essays, poetry, fiction, interviews, reviews, impassioned musings, photography, and art by both emerging and established writers and artists. We welcome diverse voices and ideas. Underrepresented writers and artists, including but not limited to those who are Black, Indigenous, LGBTQ+, deaf, and/or disabled, are especially encouraged to submit their work.
Review our About Us page or our Writer’s Resources to learn more about the types of creative work we’re looking for.
Each author will receive one free print copy of their issue.
General Guidelines:
- Archetype is open for submissions twice a year: from November 1 to January 7 for our spring issue, and from June 1 to August 6 for our fall issue.
- To submit, email us at editor@archetypemag.com with the subject line Archetype Submission. Submissions must be previously unpublished.
- We will read simultaneous submissions, but please let us know as soon as your manuscript is accepted for publication elsewhere.
- Please include a brief third-person bio with your submission. You are welcome to state demographics such as race, age, gender, etc., in your submission email.
- The word count tends to range from 1,000 to 5,000 words for essays, fiction, interviews, and reviews. We’ve set a word count so that you don’t ask, but it isn’t set in stone. If you aim to break the rule, make sure the piece is spectacular.
- Unfortunately, due to the volume of submissions we receive we are unable to respond to each submission email. That being said, please know that we review each submission carefully and take our time reading your work. We thank you for sharing your writing with us!
Poetry Guidelines: Please submit 1-5 poems at a time. We welcome all forms of poetry.
Art Guidelines: Please submit 1-10 .jpg images no smaller than 1,000 px. Please include a title for the collection or individual pieces. Artist statements are highly encouraged.
If we accept your work, we ask for First Electronic Rights to publish and non-exclusive rights to keep it on our website indefinitely. We also reserve the right to request edits on any work accepted prior to publication.
Upon publication, all rights revert back to the author. If you republish your work elsewhere, we ask that you credit us as the original publisher. Artists retain full rights to their work.
We look forward to reviewing your work and publishing our fifth issue fall of 2024.
