Writer's resources

It wasn’t too long ago that our team at Archetype were emerging writers. In many ways, we still are. For that reason, we want to make it our mission to put emerging writers first and provide them with the necessary tools and resources to succeed. Pulling from our favourite writers, artists, and thinkers, we’ve compiled a series of pages on writing. We hope you’ll learn something, or at the very least feel inspired enough to sit down and write. And remember, these are at most suggestions, not rules.

Once you’re ready to submit your work, go to our submissions page to review our guidelines.

On Writing Essays

The essay is an underappreciated form of writing. When done artfully, essays can persuade an audience of an argument, introduce the reader to a new idea, or highlight an author’s deep love for a particular subject.

On Writing Poetry

There’s nothing more elusive than the emotional charge of a well-written poem. How, we wonder, does a word after a word after a word become so potent as to be felt deeply by the reader and never forgotten after they’ve read the last word?

On Writing Reviews

For the author, a review can provide feedback on their writing and allow them to engage with others about the impact. For the reader, a review can introduce them to a new author, idea, and beautiful piece of literature.

On Writing Fiction

It takes time to craft characters, develop plot, and build a world where readers will be welcomed. This page will equip the writer with the skills and discipline needed to write a great story.

On Interviews

A great interview doesn’t retell information that is already known or could be easily found by the general public. It’s a conversation that digs deep into the interviewee’s experience and seeks truth about the topic of focus.
